Happy New Year!
jamie59 1st Jan 2019, 12:23 AM edit delete reply

Well the sun ain't there at midnight.
Happy New Year!
Oldarmourer 7th Jan 2019, 8:19 PM edit delete reply
Depends on where you are, when I lived close to New Sparta it pretty much barely dipped below the horizon in summer, it never really got dadk, you could still see a glow where it was...had to put tinfoil on the kids' window to get them to sleep. It stayed light pretty late when I lived in Nova Roma too...
Centcomm 1st Jan 2019, 12:24 AM edit delete reply

Btw this is yet another example of my experiments with Iray and lighting.
megados 1st Jan 2019, 12:55 AM edit delete reply
The sunlight effect is very convincing. Good job!

Oh, and Happy New Year! Another fine circumnavigation!
Sheela 1st Jan 2019, 6:15 AM edit delete reply

Also, no glowy mouth. :D

And while I have been told that Iray just saps all strength from your computer - It looks good! 😃
SeanR 1st Jan 2019, 10:45 AM edit delete reply
Looks like it has its own issues, however. There is an artifact over the left breast. Something to watch for on the story renders, I suspect.
Centcomm 1st Jan 2019, 11:17 PM edit delete reply

makes all kinds of frustrated noises. grrr hates artifacts!
Sheela 2nd Jan 2019, 1:43 PM edit delete reply

Relax Centy, experiments are allowed to have artifacts.

*experimentally buries artifact loot in the backyard*
Siren 17th Jan 2019, 10:02 AM edit delete reply
Iray takes SO LONG (unless you spend as much on a nVidia gpu as you do on your computer or limit yourself to simple scenes). I wish they'd focussed on fixing their incorporation of 3DL to match it's modern capabilities instead.
StLOrca 1st Jan 2019, 12:52 AM edit delete reply

Happy New Year to our foul-mouthed cyborg overlords!
ProfEtheric 1st Jan 2019, 1:49 AM edit delete reply

Happy New Year, from the distant past year of 2019! :D

(Seriously, though, that lighting is crazy stupid good! I had to do a double take to make sure that wasn't womeone cosplaying.)
Centcomm 1st Jan 2019, 4:10 AM edit delete reply

hehe thank you - id love to see someone cosplay Cent.
Sheela 1st Jan 2019, 6:16 AM edit delete reply

Yeah, that would be sweet. 😊
CptKerion 5th Jan 2019, 4:17 AM edit delete reply
I hope we can get someone to do it one of these days. I'd volunteer, but I am a bit tall, male, and hairy to pull it off.
Alchemar 1st Jan 2019, 1:55 AM edit delete reply
Yes, Iray does a nice job, but it does take a lot of resources.

Happy New year to all.
Haegan2005 1st Jan 2019, 2:09 AM edit delete reply

Is the background a 3D set or a pic overlay? Either way it looks good!
Centcomm 1st Jan 2019, 4:10 AM edit delete reply

its a Iray HDIR background..
Oldarmourer 6th Jan 2019, 4:03 PM edit delete reply
I didn't look that hard earlier and assumed it was a stock photo background...upon further inspection it looks amazing for a 3D render. Of course to be absolutely sure, we'd need to see a cheesecake shot for a new vote incentive...purely for comparitive research, of course.
plymayer 1st Jan 2019, 2:10 AM edit delete reply

Happy New Year!
oldastronomer 1st Jan 2019, 4:33 AM edit delete reply
best wishes to all, and a doff of the hat to Centcomm and Rose for this truly excellent rendering. I spent years on the beach and remember the light; this reminds me of that.
kraznor 1st Jan 2019, 4:38 AM edit delete reply
Happy new year to the both of you
Sheela 1st Jan 2019, 6:20 AM edit delete reply

AHHH, be careful Rose, there's a giant fiery ball of FIRE in the sky !!!!

And it burns !! 😱
Oldarmourer 1st Jan 2019, 6:40 AM edit delete reply
Please do not stare at the unshielded fusion reactor...
megados 1st Jan 2019, 8:01 AM edit delete reply
That must be why Rose hates it: Safety issues . . . .
CptKerion 1st Jan 2019, 1:31 PM edit delete reply
For the albino, very much safety issues. Her risk of skin cancer climbs drastically with sun exposure.
Sheela 1st Jan 2019, 10:09 PM edit delete reply

Yeah, not fun for an albino.
And she's a red-head in real life too, I think?
We ought to have some pictures of our artists,
so we know what we're talking about. 🤣
megados 2nd Jan 2019, 10:05 AM edit delete reply
There are some pics that have Rose in them (too lazy to look for them) from when Ben was having problems. I don't think she would have posted pics of herself were it not for that; I don't think she's that sort, and I don't recall Cent ever posting pics of herself. (There are, however, some rather fetching stick figure renditions . . .) XD

Happy New Year to you too! Keep up the good work, you fighters, you!
Centcomm 1st Jan 2019, 11:15 PM edit delete reply

You too! lets both not give up!
Oberoten 1st Jan 2019, 2:50 PM edit delete reply

Happy Endurance-day good folks. :)

... and now I am off to run a game of Warhammer FRPG 4th Edition (Brilliant game actualy)
Centcomm 1st Jan 2019, 11:16 PM edit delete reply

yay !
junoro 1st Jan 2019, 4:00 PM edit delete reply

Happy New Year! The sun effect looks really good! :D
Centcomm 1st Jan 2019, 11:16 PM edit delete reply

thank you so much!
Keera 1st Jan 2019, 5:05 PM edit delete reply
Shouldn’t those eyes be a little brighter? Since she is a humanoid. In the artificial light like inside of a structure her eyes tend to stand more.
Centcomm 1st Jan 2019, 11:15 PM edit delete reply

yeah they should but im still toying with that stuff
megados 2nd Jan 2019, 9:39 AM edit delete reply
JMO, but since they're in the shadow of her hairline, I thought they looked right. (unless they're supposed to be backlit or something)
Oldarmourer 2nd Jan 2019, 3:11 PM edit delete reply
if her eyes are supposed to be human(ish) or maybe a little more reflective (that the film applied for covert ops covered up), then they look right. If they're supposed to 'glow from within' like a sci-fi robot then that's up for discussion and maybe they dim in shadows ?

short summary: all the art looks good. stop obsessing ;)
mjkj 1st Jan 2019, 7:27 PM edit delete reply

Happy new year =) 🎆
MikeLinPA 1st Jan 2019, 8:40 PM edit delete reply
Happy New Year!

And it is our honor and pleasure to read the comic you so graciously provide. Thank you!
HiFranc 1st Jan 2019, 11:18 PM edit delete reply

Happy New Year!
Just_IDD 2nd Jan 2019, 12:26 AM edit delete reply
First off I hope for everyones continued health & happiness.

Second, I've found that if you stop looking for problems in art you a) don't find them and b) enjoy looking at things more. Art is not perfection, if you try for perfection, it doesn't look nature most of the time.

And lastly, a message for Nightwalker. If you fuck the sun, it burns more than a urinary tract infection. You may not have one of those, but take pity on those of us who do.
KarToon12 2nd Jan 2019, 12:56 AM edit delete reply

Have a safe and happy new year! <3
Eli Cosmanis 2nd Jan 2019, 3:09 AM edit delete reply

fuck the sun. thinks its so good. its just full of gas.
Evervigilant 2nd Jan 2019, 5:07 AM edit delete reply
Well a lot of people think the sun is pretty hot. I mean it is a star after all so it should be the center of attention. LoL
Bullwinkle 2nd Jan 2019, 8:02 AM edit delete reply
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
May you find it to be better than the old.
highlander55 2nd Jan 2019, 9:07 AM edit delete reply

Happy New Year!
Thracecius 2nd Jan 2019, 3:09 PM edit delete reply
Happy New Year, Centcomm and Tokyo Rose! Thank you both for sharing your skills and talents with us on an ongoing basis. Life wouldn't be the same without you, and certainly less interesting and amusing. ;)
Sandman366 2nd Jan 2019, 4:53 PM edit delete reply
Fucking the sun sounds painful. Pass, thanks.
Visvires 2nd Jan 2019, 10:38 PM edit delete reply
I love the alt text.
CptKerion 5th Jan 2019, 4:20 AM edit delete reply
"I would like to raise some concerns about that giant unshielded nuclear reactor up there..."
Visvires 7th Jan 2019, 1:49 AM edit delete reply
Not to worry. We've got shielding on our planet. It's not complete, but we have it.
knuut 7th Jan 2019, 10:47 AM edit delete reply
The reactor IS shielded! There is 400,000 odd miles of dense plasma between us and the core. If there wasn't, we would be dealing with an awfull lot of hard gamma rays instead of nightwalker frying UV.
Oldarmourer 7th Jan 2019, 8:22 PM edit delete reply
Anything that can give you a fatal radiation burn through a twenty mile thick insulating medium, a magnetic shield and 93 million miles of vacuum counts as unshielded in my books ;)
megados 7th Jan 2019, 10:11 PM edit delete reply
Your concerns are duly noted, and acknowledged. Now then, what would you have us do? 😱
knuut 8th Jan 2019, 12:44 AM edit delete reply
Trust in the shielding we do have (as life on this planet has for the last 4+ Giga-year) and if that's not enough (as it often isn't in Phoenix in the summer) trot over to Walmart for some SPF 50 sunscreen.
robnot 8th Jan 2019, 9:39 AM edit delete reply
heh, Phoenix summer.. i heard that Phoenix got so hot that they closed the air port.! it was to hot to fly aircraft....
knuut 8th Jan 2019, 10:29 AM edit delete reply
122F. They didn't completely close the airport. Incoming planes continued to land but outbound commercial traffic was held for a few hours. Something about one of the pre-flight engine safety checks only being calibrated to 120F so they couldn't be SURE. The AZ Air National Guard (which used the same types of aircraft but painted gray) had no problems taking off.
Oldarmourer 8th Jan 2019, 12:20 PM edit delete reply
My idea of effective sunscreen is black spray paint...BBQ paint, preferably.
megados 8th Jan 2019, 1:55 PM edit delete reply
It depends what you wanna do. If you're going to sit behind it, and don't wanna bake, white, silvered, aluminium foil, or coating, chromed, or other reflective finish, any or all to the highest polish you can muster, would be recommended. (reflector) If you're going for 'solar collector', then, yeah, black, flat black being the best. (absorption; conversion to thermal energy, etc.) :D
knuut 8th Jan 2019, 3:35 PM edit delete reply
Or you can go with the classic umbrella shaped cellulose, chlorophyll and water self replicating sunscreen.
