Marcus pushed TeeDee's buttons a little TOO well, I fear. She still has some frustrations to work out, looks like Marcus. Guess who got designated as target for said frustrations? :-D
I knew the risks going in to this, she needs to open up the throttle and see what she can do.. better me.. than some one less forgiving.. or some poor un augmented human
Now Teedee is at full capacity. My only concern is now she is more of a danger to others than before. Like getting a super power and going ape shit with it.
("with great power comes great responsibility") Sounds familiar doesn't it?
"overdrive" combat mode depeates the stored energy reserves of the andriod that uses it. basicly causing them to be VERY tired IF she used the whole 5 minutes. :D
it also places massive stresses on the body and joints.
Did TeeDee really just give herself 5 MINUTES to beat on Marcus? That will be a LONG 5 minutes for poor Marcus if that is the case.
I mean, in less than half a SECOND she already smacked him a good one. At that rate, she could lay into him with like 600 hits in that amount of time! =O
Rather than cheesy sound effects, I just add some music, like Bang-a-rang to the mix, and you have some proper action going on. :)
It too starts up slow, and then proceeds to kick ass for a while, and ends on a note of "feel good" and awesome.
So I wonder if anyone else can even see the fight at this point.
Oh sciency question. Do they create some sort of field that disperses the energy and friction they create at these speeds? Just wondering since there would be massive shock waves and fires starting.
Or just "Don't think about that part. Suspension of disbelief! This is just a story! Which is a totally fine answer that I use at times too.
actually - the range is really short and they arent moving any faster than a highly trained martial artist. she isnt breaking the sound barrier. and her senses slow down "time" kinda for her. so it seems like everyhing is bluring past her. :D
actually the hand shot, the injury is a hand painted effect I did in photoshop :D to get the small veins and skin damage over the metallic underlayers :D
Ah, the Lensmen series, from whence arose the most spectacular case of overkill in fiction*: Hitting planets with other planets (plural) that are made of antimatter and propelled at FTL velocities.
* Until Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann came along and gave us "Weapon Proficiency: Galaxy (Thrown)".
Ah, when it comes to overkill, the old sci-fi series called Lexx was pretty good at it ... they start off softly with earth, then a few mnore planets, then the univers, then heaven and hell and then yet another universe ... can't remember how it ended, but I suspect they ended up destroying something more.
I have every one of the Lensman series in paperback. Some are even first PB printing. I also have the Skylark series. I would love to see a well done webcomic of those series. Golden age geek heaven.
A Cent-comm style webcomic would be better than a movie!
And no messing around with the 'details' to conform with current day expectations either!
It is a historical work after all!
So what happens when the 5 min activation is up? Does she burn out, wear out or just plain stop?
Also, an equal sign in just about every computer context is an assignment operator; if you want to make a report, use a colon instead (e.g. "variable: value" is a report whereas "variable = value" is an assignment). ;)
I was going to say she is going to need LOTS of calories to make up the energy she just burned up! :-D
And CyberSkull, are you sure those are equal signs? They look (to me) like dash with a shadow font turned on. There isn't a clear space between the bars like I would expect for an equal sign.
Well Kyle and Rose are up next, whenever TeeDee gets done schooling Marcus in manners and CentComm gets any other loose ends tidied up. :-D
Then I think it will be back to Acantha and Lynn with a helping of Aeneas on the side.
Then may or may not get a quick update in New Troy with Minx, Calliope and lover boy, I mean Ray (who still doesn't have an entry in the Cast Page). Not sure if CentComm needs to say anything with them or not. Oh, and I guess CentComm could be involved too. But who would want it to be, I mean why involve such a minor character? :-D
Then we will get back to the REAL stars of the comic, Dolly and Ceci! :-D Last seen in Play the Hand (6 June 2013).
I hate seeing bad behavior rewarded with triumph over logic and common sense. It's like giving in to a child's temper tantrums, which is what this overgrown chip-baby Bitch has been pitching since she showed up. I truly do not Like this character. If a little near death experience messes her mind up this badly, she's in the wrong line of work altogether. Poor selection, no matter how much trick combat 'ware is in her ungrateful little head right now. She is a Problem. I kind of want to see her get wasted just to shut her up.
Feed her to the Prince.
We've addressed the reasons for Teedee's unstable behavior before--she endured severely traumatic death, a reload into a body she did not and never would have chosen, being forced out on the mission with zero post-reload psychological counseling or reorientation assistance, etc.
Writing for the character during this arc has been uncomfortable and difficult; I've known people who have suffered severe post-traumatic stress disorder, and it's not a pleasant thing to convey. We have chosen to portray her in such a way as to keep her viewpoint off the screen, which has the unfortunate effect of making her appear to be excessively antagonistic and negative. It's still a lot better than trying to use any of the drafts that DO show her viewpoint and internal monologue; I put a great deal of myself into my writing, and breaking down in tears every five minutes doesn't get pages done.
Thank you for your efforts Rose. You are delivering a quality product. Both funny and thought provoking (as judged by the number of comments generated) with your words. :-)
Hmm - I realize this was a guest comment. so im not sure when you will respond. PTSD and similar type disorders are very hard to diagnose and live with. and people respond to them in diffrent ways. TD has always had a chip on her shoulder BUT her and Ada get things done. Centcomm doesnt care so much about the method as the result.
All I know is if I see that expression on TeeDee's face directed at me in the future, I'll kiss my ass goodbye and hope she kills me quick. She looks very much like the cat pondering the mouse in the middle of the room that has just finished giving said cat the finger and a few choice words.
Yeah, but the sooner Marcus falls down the less damage he takes (probably) and the sooner they can get back to the MISSION.
So Marcus has to stay focused on what is important here. Not get his ego too engaged and wind up with both TeeDee and Marcus being put out of commission.
It depends on who (or what) the 'observing citizen' is.
Marcus can probably speak to this with more authority than I, but there's a concept in intelligence work called "credibility of source" that comes into play here. In fact, this is a perfect example of it.
If our observer is an actual member of the Nova Roman intelligence service, we were *already* blown. Agents are rare, even in a totalitarian police state, so the odds of one 'just happening' to be in the bar where we stopped are fairly long.
If the observer isn't an agent, you have a report from someone in a bar that they saw something unbelievable. The likely reaction will be along the lines of "And after enough wastelander rot-gut, *anybody* will see something unbelievable!"
After all, it's only a few glasses' distance from "In vino veritas" to "In vino puniceis barrus". :-D
And everybody went "what?"...
It's like a nightmare to security people.
A nightmare on both LSD *and* Cocaine.
("with great power comes great responsibility") Sounds familiar doesn't it?
'split the moment into frames'--very nice showing her movements within this time frame --the blurs work really well.
Shielded along with Doctor Silver.
it also places massive stresses on the body and joints.

As demonstrated here by the master (starting at about 30 seconds in).
It too starts up slow, and then proceeds to kick ass for a while, and ends on a note of "feel good" and awesome.
Though even the comments to herself are well done. Telling us things about how TeeDee is thinking now. :-)
Anyone who haven't read it, should go and do so .. now!
In fact, toss them in the time machine and send them back in time so they CAN read it already. :-D
Really well done, all around =D

[If you folks ever run out of plot, you could do a very fine job in the Lensman Universe!]
(While I'm up in The Woods, I think I will reread the whole Series again!)
When everything is already +1, how do you go above ?
And no messing around with the 'details' to conform with current day expectations either!
It is a historical work after all!
...so, revenge it is? ...poor Marcus...

Best example for this. Armitage when she knocked on heaven's Door *google it*

PS: did you mean New Sparta, since CentComm is in New Troy and Lynn was on her way to New Sparta for her birthday party and her boyfriend

Besides, TeeDee's potential has yet to be revealed.
Your writing *is* great - thank you so much for your effort.
She uses her shoulder to think with ? >_<
(I was going to throw in my $0.02 about PTSD, but really, let's just get back to enjoying the comic...)
Of course, remember the Mouse That Roared! :-D So it might not be as one sided as we think.
at storm LOL totally awesome that story is trally cool :D
Wouldn't that be an unpleasant surprise for TeeDee ? :D
So Marcus has to stay focused on what is important here. Not get his ego too engaged and wind up with both TeeDee and Marcus being put out of commission.
Generally. :D
...almost, because I believe TeeDee still has enough control (and Marcus *is* a friend after all)

"In vino puniceis barrus": "In wine, purple elephants". :D
...except this one, I lol'd. You guys are geniuses, seriously. YOU MADE ME LIKE A "WAIT, WHAT?" -- wait, WHAT?!?!?
Violets are blue....
Omae wa mÅ shindeiru...
